I can not get a true neutral B&W with any of them. I manage and operate over 15 high end photo printers but I also have several similar Office / Photo Epson printers using similar 6 color dye ink sets as your is.
The results would be even worse.īut long story short, your printer is simply not meant for real black and white printing. You would have to then disable color management within the printer driver or you would end up with the editing app AND the printer driver BOTH trying to color manage your print.

Then you will have to learn how to print through an ICC profiles and use an editing app that allows you to print with ICC profiles. If the steps of the ramp vary in tonalities from dark to light, there is really nothing you can do except have a custom ICC profile created for a specific paper you are using. If the printed steps are linear in tonality from the darkest to the lightest then maybe you can adjust the color balance within the printer driver to counteract the bluish tone. The reason is to see whether ALL the tonalities from darkest to lightest suffer from this bluishness you are seeing. Now what you really need to do is create or find an image of a 20 step NEUTRA black to white ramp and print that. So the cast you see is pretty much normal. When you print to B&W, the printer will use ALL the other colors and some black ink ( only for accenting darks ) to produce a composite black color. This printer only has one general use black ink. It has nothing to do with a MAC or WINDOWS for that matter. The colour photos come out REALLY nice but when I print B&W photos they all seem to have a subtle tonality shift from what I see on the screen, slightly more towards a cooler, bluish hue (very subtle).ĭoes any experienced Mac user get any insight on what I could try to get a better "blackandwhiteness" ? Just bought an XP-850 and hooked it to my iMac (OSX 10.8.6) with the latest relevant drivers from Epson. I hope someone more knowledgeable than I am might help me.
